A hero is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. There are many different definitions of a hero. Someone that we can call a big hero to our country is Jackie Robinson. Jackie Roosevelt Robinson was an American professional baseball player. He played second baseman who became the first African American to play in Major League Baseball in the modern era. Jackie Robinson broke the baseball color line when the Dodgers started him at first base. When jackie was signed they heralded the end of racial segregation in professional baseball that had relegated black players to the Negro leagues since the 1880s. Robinson was put into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962.Regarding his skill, here are a few things besides baseball that he has done to make a difference in our country by using his courage and his confidence. Robinson faced a bunch of insults and threats because of his race. The courage and grace that he has, has made a big impact on handling the abuses that robinson has faced. Robinsons courage has definitely inspired a generation of African Americans to question the doctrine of “separate but equal” and helped make way for the Civil Rights Movement. Robinson, however, broke his emotional and political silence in 1949, he soon became an outspoken and controversial opponent of racial discrimination. He criticized the slow pace of baseball integration and objected to the Jim Crow practices in the Southern states.Robinson led other ballplayers in urging baseball to use its power to desegregate Southern towns, hotels and ballparks. Most baseball teams integrated calmly, the “Jackie Robinson experiment” provided an important example of successful desegregation to ambivalent white southern political and business leaders. Having watched baseball integrate through a combination of individual black achievements, white goodwill, economic persuasion and public outspokenness, Robinson, when he retired from baseball in 1957, sought to bring the same tactics to bear on increasing African American employment opportunities.A Villain that has not accomplished a lot was Michael Dwayne Vick. He made a few impacts on his career and he later made a few mistakes. Michael Dwayne Vick was a former American football quarterback who played 13 seasons in the NFL, he played with the Atlanta Falcons and the Philadelphia Eagles. He played college football for Virginia Tech and was selected by the Falcons as the first pick in the 2001 NFL Draft. During his six years with the Falcons, he was considered as having transformed the quarterback position with his rushing abilities and he later was named to three pro bowls. Vick holds a record for the most career rushing yards by a quarterback, and the most rushing yards by a quarterback in a season.A Villain that has not accomplished a lot was Michael Vick. He was caught paying people for fighting dogs. Michael often referred to it as “Bad Newz,” a nickname he later gave his kennel and dog fighting ring his hometown was never far behind him. It seems as if trouble was always following Vick. In 2004, two men driving a truck owned by Vick were arrested for transporting a large quantity of marijuana. Vick was never prosecuted. The year after that, a woman sued him for allegedly giving her a sexually transmitted disease. Vick then settled the case out of the court. Two years later in April 2007, investigators started an investigation on drug activity related to a cousin of Vick’s. They raided Vicks home during the summer of 2009. The raid showed investigators an entrenched dog-fighting scene that included a number of injured animals.
